I tried to find Nanoleaf alternatives due to the cost (Nanoleaf is not cheap) but in the end, I decided to get Nanoleaf because it works the first time, looks amazing and has great software that makes the display look awesome. I used a configure tool that showed me different patterns based on what I had and I played around with it until I picked one I like. It automatically detected the layout and adjusted the software accordingly so that it always looks great!. Highly recommend. My one gripe is it is not inexpensive. My setup cost me over $600 Canadian for an approximately 3' x 3' area.
