Q&A: Nanoleaf’s Brand Evolution (What’s Changing, What’s Not, and Why)
We’ve been hearing a lot of questions as Nanoleaf evolves beyond just lighting into AI-driven experiences, wellness technology, and new categories of intelligent products. Some of these questions are curious, some are cautious—and all of them are fair. So we wanted to get you all the answers you’re looking for.
1. “I don’t get it… are you still making lights, or are you becoming a totally different company now?”
YES we’re still making lights! That’s where Nanoleaf started, and it remains a core part of what we do.
Our (ongoing) journey with lighting has taught us how powerful it is when environments feel responsive, expressive, and personal. Now we’re taking that same thinking into new types of products and experiences, some still focused on light, but many that go beyond.
The bigger shift is this: we’re not just building “lights” anymore—we’re building intelligent experiences for everyday life.
2. “So is Nanoleaf just turning into an AI company now? That feels like a big pivot.”
Not quite. AI is a tool we’re using, not the destination.
We’re not trying to become an “AI company” in the abstract sense. We’re using AI where it actually improves real experiences: making things feel more intuitive, more personalized, and less complicated.
As an example, with our AI Magic Scenes feature, instead of clicking through pages of settings to create a custom Scene, you can just describe what you want and have your environment respond.
AI will be there to support the experience, not define it.
3. “What does this mean for the products I already own? Are you stopping support for them?”
Definitely not, your existing products (and the support for them) are not going anywhere.
The only thing changing about them is that, with new feature development and releases, they’ll be getting even better and better.
4. “Why are you suddenly talking about things like wellness and other non-lighting products? That feels like a stretch.”
It might sound like a stretch at first, but once you think about it it actually makes a lot of sense.
We’ve spent over 10 years exploring the power of light, specializing in LEDs, and pioneering the RGB space to help it become what it is today. So the question isn’t “Why Red Light Therapy”, it’s “What about G and B?”
(—And the answer is that our LED Therapy Mask has 7 different color treatment modes with scientifically proven wavelengths + NIR to address 7 different skin concerns, so we’ve got Green, Blue, and more already covered.)
But really, at our core, Nanoleaf has really always been about rethinking what’s possible, with lighting, with emerging technologies, and with anything else that can meaningfully improve how we feel and exist within our home and our lives.
Wellness technology, AI-driven systems, and future products beyond lighting are just other ways of exploring the same idea: how technology can improve everyday life in more meaningful ways.
5. “This sounds ambitious, but how do I know this won’t just become hype and lose what made Nanoleaf special?”
What’s made Nanoleaf feel different over the years isn’t just the products themselves, it’s the balance between innovation and design. We don’t build technology just because we can; we build it to actually have a meaningful impact on how things feel, work, and integrate into daily life—even through something as unexpected as lighting.
That won’t change. If anything, as we expand into new categories, that discipline becomes even more important.
The goal isn’t to chase trends. It’s to keep turning real technological progress into experiences that feel intentional, useful, and genuinely enjoyable to live with.
So, where does all of this leave us?
In many ways, exactly where we’ve always been—just with a much bigger canvas to work with. Nanoleaf will continue making products that help people shape spaces they love, express themselves, and enjoy technology in ways that feel intuitive and exciting. Some of those experiences will still be powered by light. Others will go beyond it entirely.
But the thing tying it all together stays the same: a belief that great technology should feel thoughtfully designed, meaningful in everyday life, and be something more people can actually experience—not just watch from the sidelines. We’re incredibly excited for what’s ahead, and we’re grateful you’re coming along for the ride with us.
