If you’re anything like me, this winter you’ve probably already rewatched all your favorite shows, replayed your favorite games (Baldur’s Gate 3, anyone?) more times than you can count, and now you’re getting to that point during this cold and dark season where you’re bouncing between deliria and extreme boredom.
I have some good news: there’s a way out! I recently got some Nanoleaf Hexagon Panels, and while they would be great in my gaming setup, I’ve actually been using them for wellness activities.
Maybe it’s the deliria, maybe it’s the momentum from my New Year’s resolutions, but mindfulness has been a game changer in my life recently. And my Hexagons have been a big help in my journey. Here are a few ways I’ve been using my Nanoleaf lights for wellness activities:
#1: Color Therapy

Probably the easiest wellness hack with my Nanoleaf Lights has been to use them for color therapy! If winter had a color palette, it would probably be filled with lots of grays and dark blues. No wonder we tend to be more downcast in Winter! Colors can stimulate our moods and our energy, and with my Nanoleaf Lights, I’ve been able to hack my moods! For example, I love the Morning Sky Scene for when I want my space to feel open and airy, and the Jungle Scene for when I want to feel grounded and earthy! All these scenes can be found and used on your Nanoleaf Lights via the Nanoleaf App.
#2: Ambient Yoga

My favorite thing about practicing yoga in yoga studios is the ambience: from the incense smells to the perfect candlelit lighting. However, as it gets colder, I’ve been practicing yoga at home more and more. Fortunately, I’m now not missing much on ambience because my Nanoleaf lights give me full control over the brightness and colors, making it the perfect lighting for some ambient yoga!
I love getting to control exactly how I want the lights to look, because I can switch it up each time, depending on the type of yoga flow I’m doing.
Plus, on the Nanoleaf App, you can pick preset color Scenes if you don’t want to fully customize the lighting yourself. I personally love the Blaze Scene for my yoga practice- it brings a warmth into my room that’s needed in the winter season!
#3: Light Journaling

Journaling has been a huge game changer in my wellness routine! For those of you who journal, or kept diaries in the past, you know how therapeutic it can be to get everything out on paper. It’s especially beneficial when you have a journaling prompt helping guide your writing, and your mind.
Recently I’ve been getting my journaling prompts from… my Nanoleaf lights! Through the Nanoleaf App, you can create a Magic Scene that generates a color Scene based on the ‘Magic Word’ you give to it.
I like to put in the first word that comes into my head, witness the Magic Scene once it’s generated, and write along to these prompts:
Why did I choose the magic word I chose? How has this word shown up in my life today?
As creatively as possible, describe the color Scene that was generated from the magic word. How did it make me feel?
Would I have picked different colors for my magic word? Which ones and why?
I find that journaling with my Nanoleaf light Magic Scenes is a fun way to remind myself to look at the world creatively! Anything can be made into a mindful moment, as long as intention is brought into each moment.
#4: Light-Enhanced Exercises
I don’t know about you, but it takes a lot for me to do cardio during winter. While I love slower flows and movement like yoga and strength training, my cardio always takes a major hit during winter, and when the warmer seasons are back, I spend most of it trying to build my endurance back up.
Well, not anymore because I’ve finally beat the cycle! I just discovered ✨Dancercise ✨and it’s the most fun type of cardio ever! A workout where all you do is listen to good music and dance to it? Sounds like heaven to me. And my Nanoleaf Hexagons have a Rhythm Music Visualizer Mode where the lights flash and react to the music playing, making the workout even more dynamic!
I love to follow this dancercise by Fitness Marshall:
He also uses his Nanoleaf Shapes on the Rhythm Mode for his dancercises, and you can see in the video how much life the lights bring to his movement!
Another dancercise that I absolutely adore is this one by growwithjo:
I love the purple and blue hues she has on in the background, it makes it perfect for a nice evening winddown session. I love to set my lights to similar colors to really feel into the ambience!
