I know Nanoleaf has come out with far more recent (and lovely) products; but these are still my favorite - in just about every aspect: the simplistic seamless-appearing design of the thin and seamless looking squares has a far more sophisticated appearance (imo) than their shapes or lines lights. I also find that many (most, all) scenes have a smoother and fluid color transition than the same scenes do for the hexagon line. Not that those don’t have their appeal, but I find the canvas design far more congruous with my combination of futuristic/mid century modern design aesthetic, definitely have a more high end look and feel about them. They mesh well with high end design items. The catalogue photos are accurate in their portrayal as something that coordinates seamlessly with high art.
Admittedly a pain to set up - even for somebody who’s as an*l retentive as me - definitely recommend a level and something to mark the wall when lining them up (I found a light hand with a number2 pencil easy to both draw the guidelines and erase them afterwards), also I’d caution against using the 3m adhesive strips included in the packaging (as my cat can attest, even when directions are perfectly followed, not super secure on smooth painted walls) I’ve actually been using the velcro-type where both sides of the “velcro” are identical picture mounting adhesive very effective and convenient for mounting all of my Nanoleaf wall lights (bonus, if you misalign, you’re only out half the mounting adhesive and it’s very easy to rearrange - admittedly my hatred of the basic 3m mounting squares, etc. well predates the age of wall mounted smart lights).
It’s a shame that they’re faxing them out. The thin, borderless, look of them is far more aesthetically appealing than the bulkier wall mounted lighting.
I’m terms of brightness, when set to pure white (or daylight simulation) the 9 square starter set is more than sufficient to light my 10x10 bedroom at night (and I tend to use the equivalent of 800-1100 brightness standard lightbulbs).
So functional as well as decorative.
I hope that Nanoleaf releases something aesthetically similar in the future. Maybe that’s just a bit more forgiving in terms of how precise the mounting has to be done - I can’t imagine setting up a wall of the canvas light perfectly straight would be an easy task.
Still. Well worth it. Especially once one gets past the aggravation of perfectly level with no room for error installation.
(They also bounce wonderfully well off of startled cats - my fluff ball highly recommends something stronger than the included 3m adhesives for mounting ^_^)
